Ive driven a 40 horse beetle... a much lighter car, unloaded, and it had
a hard time getting out of its own way.

Hmmmm, it wasn't too long ago that I used to drive my old 1960 Bug with it's
original 36-hp motor as a daily driver and it did very well except when
asked to go up some of the bigger hills on the state highways and
interstates at 50 or more mph. Of course, when driving any long distance,
there was also "Volkswagen time" and "normal time".
