I had dinner tonight with my ME engine professor friend and asked him about the gasohol question. He agreed that the energy in alcohol was lower than in alcohol, but he wasn't sure of the amount either. We agreed that it was not a big difference, but it was significant. He also pointed out that the stociometry (sp?) for alcohol would be different (different ideal fuel/air ratio) so this would be the thing that changes whether you need to run richer or leaner. If some of you have really poorly jetted carbs then changing to gasohol would help, possibly a lot, but only if the gasohol took you in the right direction. Sorry, but right now I don't know which direction that would be.
