The problem has been cured! Apparently as russ so paciently stated the not noise suppression plug wires were the problem. I changed out the voltage regulator and the problem decreased, so I think my old japanese regulator was going out. After the problem was not fixed by that I decided, as a last resort to change plug wires with brand spanken new bosch wires. Lo and behold, problem fixed. This may have been what it always needed, as nothing I did to cure the irradic idle helped. It still lacks power at high rpm and makes some noise, but I always assumed these problems were not associated. Thanks for all who contributed assistnace for my humble problem. Sorry russ, I accidentally replied directly to you. nathan 1970 fastback On Tue, 2002-04-16 at 10:24, Jim Adney wrote: > On 16 Apr 2002, at 7:50, Drake . wrote: > > > Will a lack of noise suppression plug wires cause a problem with the FI > > system? Been there, done that, from 1968 til 1979 when I left VW. I did most of the FI work in the dealerships. One of the first things we checked for when one came in with FI complaints, was the plug wires, and found a lot of cheap solid wires causing problems. BTW, it is illegal by FCC law, to run a vehicle, on public roads, without radio suppression plug wires. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
