> Fastback that needs new floors and front quarter panels, if it had been a US > car you would have parted it out years ago!!!!!!!!! Simon, if you were going to go through the trouble of shipping a car from the U.S., why wouldn't you bother spending far less $$$ up front to get a solid, unrusted car? A sub-$500 rusted VW may cost thousands of dollars in parts, labor, equipment, suppylies and time to make solid again; why not spend $2000 up front on a never-rusted car from a milder climate? About a year ago we had to drive around town on a number of errands on a nice, sunny Saturday afternoon. We decided to count air-cooled VWs. I can't remember how many we spotted -- 50? 60? I would suspect that over 90% of them had solid heater channels and unrusted pans (except for the battery area, of course). Many are still driven as cheap transportation, not as enthusiast cars. Heck, some guy and his kitty cat *live* in a beige squareback with tinted windows here in Berkeley -- overnights in market parking lots and on the side of the street in business districts. I see the kitty cat peeking out of the vent wings some mornings. Again, I'm all for somebody bringing a rusted-out VW back to life, but I don't understand why you would particularly seek the additional challenge, time, and expense when there are solid cars available. -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
