Sorry to bug everybody with these silly questions; by the way, thank you Toby and Jim for the suggestions on removal of the seat back release lever and pawl... The lever turned out to just pull off with a screwdriver. The pawl simply required a little tapping with a hammer and drill bit. The old sping pin was so covered with gunk that I coudln't see the where the pin was hiding! Restoring seats has its surprises at every turn. The kit supplied by TMI was superb by the way. I used their foam, taped some carpet underneath so as to protect it from the mean looking springs, then, placing the covers over the foam, stretched them snugly, attaching them with the old spiky things built into the seat frames. The seat bottoms and backs are now finished. I took the springs to a little tire repair shop across from my work in Buttonwillow (pop 200), where the cracked frames and loose supports were made whole again. I refurbished the long-dead seat release mechanism, using the cable/knob from a donor set. I even replaced the carboard backing with a nice piece of masonite. Now I'm working on the seat bases, having just wire brushed all the loose rust off. Q: Should I grind down to shiny metal? I get to a smooth shiny black metal which I assume is still oxidized, but I can't seem to get all the way down to shiny stuff in some places. Also, I noticed that on my original seats, the adjusting handles were black plastic, whereas the replacement seat have chrome metal handles, What is the signicance of this? Q: How do I remove the handles, I'd like to keep the metal handles once I junk the seats? I can't seem to figure what to do with the little hole; is this some sort of release? Here's a photo http://home.pacbell.net/eandk2/index.html It really is satisfying to see how they're turning out. These were initially coverered in red velour. Mind you, they gave the car a certain bordello/funeral home feel, which to some may have its attraction, however, but they were starting to get ratty. Thanks again, Eduardo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
