I once had a Volve 340 with the wierd rubber band transmission. On that car, you had to start in neutral, otherwise you damaged the clutch. There was no switch to prevent starting in park, you just had to remember: start in neutral or rip up your clutch. So the limiting switch on the Type 3 was just too reminiscent of this for me not to ask. One other thing: Bentley mentions illumination of the automatic shifter. Mine certainly doesn't have this, not on the original shifter or the one I replaced it with. Can I assume this was added at some later date? I've often wondered why on earth the Type 3 never had this.
