Do this statically or with the vacuum hose disconnected.<< According to my copy of the factory workshop manual 12.5 degrees BTDC should only be used for engines built from August 1 to September 5 1962. Recommended timing changed several times during 1962 due to ongoing modifications to the Solex 32 PHN-1 carburetor. The earliest models upo through July 1962 had two-notch pulleys and the timing should be set to the right notch (10 BTDC). The third 12.5 degree notch was added to the pulley in August 62. After Sept. 5 1962 the timing was changed back to 10 BDTC but the pulley still had the third 12.5 notch so these engines should be timed to the center mark. The manual also says that if detonation is a problem it's o.k. to move the timing to 7.5 BTDC.
