For clarification, is it a USA-spec or Euro-spec car? > Having seen the car myself, and knowing that James will most likely not be checking his email because he is packing up his whole house by himself, I feel qualified to answer this. I hope I am not stepping on any toes. I went down to James' house yesterday with my neighbor, trailer in tow, to help him with his first Type3 purchase. Yes, both of the rear and the left front fenders were off. Only the driver's seat was in it, and it wouldn't start - no fuel pump action. The rust whole under the battery was big enough for the battery to fall through it without the huge aftermarket battery tray in there to support it. We couldn't see daylight through the rust on the driver's side, but it felt like I could press my finger right through it. Quarter windows and at least one door window was out, and there was a pile of new window rubber in where the back seat should be. The headliner looked good, but all of the seats had duct tape covers. All of the interior side panels were out. One tire is flat, and the left rear brake drum was oozing brake fluid out into a puddle on the garage floor. There was rust in places I have never seen it before. It was weird because all the body panels looked good, but the bottom of the drivers side air intake, where the drain flap is, was about ready to fall out. The doors have some pretty heavy rust on the shoulders, about an inch below the bottom of the window, but the bottom of the doors are fine. The rear package tray was developing a good amount of rust. The windshield has a few cracks and chips. The radio is dangling from the dash by its wires. To get back to the questions, this is a USA-spec car, but has been owned by two German wives of American military men. No, it isn't drivable, but I feel it wouldn't take a couple guys more than a days' work to get it to run, provided the fuel pump and/or relay has only the assumed wiring problem, and not worn out. The engine looked great from the top, but underneath, it and the auto-tranny were coated in a very heavy black ooze all the out to the brake drums. Toby, this might be just the thing for you, but this was just too far into cancer project mode for my neighbor's liking. He was really excited on the way down, but lost it when we got there. Too bad. James said the 'wrecker guy' is going to eBay the good parts and cut the rest up. I didn't ask James where he was taking it. Act fast, though, the car will be gone today and James will be on a plane tomorrow. Freddie Lochner http://devoted.to/my69notch 69 Notch 66 Fasty > >James R.
