You asking about fogging around the edges of your windshield, 
right? If so, it's not the glass, but the plastic sandwiched between 
the 2 layers of glass that is turning white.

I don't know for sure, but I've been told that the cause of this is 
water leaking in around the rubber gasket and reacting with the 
edge of the plastic film. Supposedly, this can be prevented by 
properly sealing the gasket, something which VW never did (they 
just installed a straight gasket, no sealant.) I need to email my 
glass man again and get the name of the product that is supposed 
to prevent this.

The question arises whether the fogging will slowly go away if the 
source of water is removed. I don't know, but it seems unlikely.
