I getting my heating system working but have a fairly simple about the warm air mixer housing. The Bentley manual says to screw the thermostat down until the valve contacts the housing (fig 5-2). Then you preload the valve by screwing the thermostat down until there is a clearance of .040 to .060 (1.00 to 1.50 mm) at the bottom. From looking at the picture the gap (b) is between the nut and thermostat, problem is the nut turns on the stud, so the gap can be what ever you want it to be. Before I took the housing apart the nut was tight against the thermostat, both left and right housings are the same. I've only taken one of them a part, so if I need I can put it back together like the other one. Since this warm air housing isn't engineered like the space shuttle, I would guess the correct adjustment would be to turn the thermostat down until the valve contacts the housing, then another 1/2 to 1 full turn, and tighten the nut against the thermostat? Does this make sense or is there a better way?
