Hi, I was looking for some advice when I go to take a look at my car tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I can try a few fixes or if I would be better of getting it towed to a mechanic. On my way home from the vw show in crystal lake, the car stalled after coming to a stop or slowing down. If I could catch it in time I could give it gas to prevent this OR pop the clutch to restart it. However, once it fully died it became progressively harder to start. It did this three times, the third time was at the exit of the expressway and I could NOT restart it so we pushed it onto a side street. The starter will turn over the car and it will TRY to run, but the Oil and Generator lights flicker (more on than off), the throttle has NO response (but ocassionally, and less frequently with each stall it caught only to stall the next time the car stops) The car was running decently, but would seem a little bumpy on occasion. If I can, I would like to adjust my valves tomorrow (depends on how safe the street is, I don't want to get hit!) and adjust the Throttle Valve Switch since I previously adjusted it (perhaps incorrectly? though the car ran for a few days fine after the adjustment) when I was having a high idle problem. Are there any other things I can attempt to get it running and home. Just looking for advice. My frustrated side says TOW IT, my "learn more about your car side" says figure it out for yourself, The city of Chicago says, "leave it parked on a side street too long AND we'll tow it!"
