[T3] A word about seals...

With all the seal discussion about the crap on the market Ill repost my FAQ on seals:

1) OEM seals all have the part number molded into them... look for this, if its not there its not
OEM.

2) NOS german seals generally fit properly, are light grey, but are designed to fit the most
popular application years and are only a close best fit for some of the other versions.

3) WCM extruded seals for the hoods and decklids are all dark grey or black and NONE will seal
properly. The cross-section is entirely the wrong design and to make matters even worse many are
tied togeather with strings in shipping and storage and they will NEVER lose the wrinkles from the
improper handling.

4) WCM window seals for side and rear windows generally seal with only moderate success as they are
extruded and generally leak at the corners if not helped out with RTV. The Cal look seem to be of a
poorer quality rubber and crack at the corners faster than the american ones... this may be limited
to late manuf seals.

5) The only American windshield seals that DO seal are the ones with the longer lip, WCM supplies
these on a spotty basis, and Im not sure if the Cali's seal properly or not.

6) The outer door scrapers can be fabricated with the late bus seals, and if done carefully and
properly, riveted to the steel backing, look and seal as good as the originals.

I have a couple boxes of good used seals that I posted a couple years ago, there was alot of interest
but only 1 person actually sent me a check. If there really seems to be renewed interest I may dig
these out again in the spring and offer them up.
