Hey Steven, to answer your question about the fresh air flaps, i would start off by saying look in the Bentley Manual. There is a fairly good picture of the workings of the flaps and cables. At least you will have a visual. The flaps are controlled by 2 cable's, as you turn the fresh air adjust knobs they pull on cable shortening it or elongating it, on the other end the cable pushs and pulls to open and close the flaps in the fresh air box. I would check to make sure that the clamps on either end of the cable has not come loose. If all is ok there i would check to make sure the cable's loop on the end has not come off of the flap arm. There should be a little spring fitting that holds the cable end to the flap arm. One of these things should be causing the problem. I would suggest taking out the fresh air box for it is really difficult to see the ends of the cables that connect to the flap arms with is being installed. Also a good time to clean out all of the garbage that has collected in there over the years. As far as drilling holes in the bottom of your doors, they already have them from the factory. One at the rear and one at the front of the door. Take off the door panel and make sure there is no debris inside the door that is clogging the drains. Once the door is cleaned out use a small pointed object to clean out any dirt in the drain holes. I used the end of a strong zip tie so that i would not scratch any paint off. Hope this clears things up. I have pictures of where the cables hook up to the fresh air flaps if you want a visual i can email them to you directly.
