It can be cause by oil seepage past the rings when sitting, or it can be something as simple as an overfilled air cleaner, and the car is parked on a slope. If it goes away right away, and you don't have excessive oil consumption (1.7-3.4 pints per 1000 miles as per VW), and it is not leaking, don't worry about it.
