Yes, my manual is dated 8/71, so I edited your chart and added mine in there following your format. This is probably worth saving. ------- Forwarded message follows ------- From: "shackedup" <shackedup@home.com> I've got a few owner's manuals and here is what I found: Manual Recommended Valve Setting 63 VW 1500 (8/62) .008"/.008" 64 VW 1500S (8/63) .012"/.012" 65 VW 1500N (8/64) .008"/.012" 66/67 combined replacement (9/69) .004"/.004" 68 (8/67) .004"/.004" 69 .004"/.004" 70 .004"/.004" 72 (8/71) .004"/.004" 72 (12/71) .006"/.006" 73 .006"/.006" Indeed my 72 manual has the .006" setting. If Jim's 72 manual was an 8/71 printing then it would seem that it was the last manual with the .004" valve recommendation. My 64 1500S manual is an early one and only says VW 1500 on the cover (no 'S'.) It is clearly an S model owner's manual, though. It shows all the deluxe trim and twin carbs, I guess they just hadn't added the 'S' to the cover yet. Why the weird valve settings, though?
