This is partially because the Taiwanese chrome is very thin. And while the engine chrome lasts a while, chrome for the outside doesnt. I buddy got these cute eyelids for his '64 Bug, these had thick rust in a matter of only a few months. He got a new pair and clearcoted them. Those are still shiny.
