I have done it, and next time I'd rather drop the engine as the total work time would be shorter. My car is carbed so YMMV. Basically, you have to remove the left upper tin. Most of the screws are visible, but there is one in front of cyl #3 that is a real PITA to get out and back in. Also the intake runner has to be removed (or manifold and carb if that applies). I can not remember how long it took, but I imagine I spent some 4 hours or something (including coffee breaks of course). I spent a lot of time getting that one screw by cyl #3 out, so just because of that one I would rather drop the boxer.
