<x-charset iso-8859-1>As everyone may remember a few weeks ago I had a problem with a cross threaded plug on my Notchback. I thought the problem was fixed but all of a sudden I noticed she started running funny upon acceleration and she doesn't have the get up and go. Also, I think I hear a very, very faint tapping on the left. I check the valves, none were tight, none were loose. all were .006, and the plugs looked clean. I ran a compression test wet and dry and here's what I found: Cylinders 1,2,3 =3D 110-112# (consistent) Cylinder 4 =3D 92# (this was the cross threaded cylinder) I squirted some oil down the cylinder and the compression jumped to 110# on cylinder 4. So, I am guessing that I cracked a ring. Would this be = possible if my spark plug was cross threaded, and that cylinder was running lean? Or would this have been a previous problem waiting to happen? I will take the engine out and get a better inspection tomorrow. In the meantime, I appreciate any thoughts you could send. P.S. Thanks for the tips earlier, Jim.=20 Jason 68 Notch ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/ </x-charset>
