It never felt like the brakes were bled, even though I did it 8 or 10 times
before taking it off and getting another new one, which worked fine after
the first bleed.  The guys at the VW shop didn't act suprised to hear that
the first one was bad, they said they have had a few bad new ones in the
past.  Maybe someone forgot the plungers at the factory!  On my current
Squareback ('66) I used a NOS German MC and have had no problems.  Jeremy
said that his dual circuit MC is also German, but I don't know if it is NOS.
