Russ has a very good point here. A little stickyness in the mech
advance is common. They can be worked over to make them silky
smooth, but a few decades of neglect often leaves them in poor
condition.

For example, how many of you know where on your mech adv dist
you are supposed to put a drop of oil periodically?
