I'm not convinced this is a real problem. I heard the horror stories
about the MTBE weakening the rubber in fuel lines and injector seals,
but I've been in CA for almost 3 yrs now driving old VWs and newer cars
without any trouble like that. Has anybody in CA had fuel-rubber
compatibility problems?

Mark,

I live in Sunnyvale, CA. It may have been a coincidence but I had to
replace all of my fuel lines because of excess leaks. I say coincidence
because they were older lines but the leaks started appearing shortly
after the addition of MTBE in the California gas.
