Turning the key ON just sends power down that wire, making it possible to use that wire to do a test. The test consists of listening to see if you can hear a "click" when you apply power to the electromagnetic pilot jet. If the jet is working, you should be able to hear a "click" as the electromagnet opens the jet. If you don't hear a click, the jet is most likely dead. I had a series of these on a Mercedes which kept failing. I think I finally did a post mortem on one and found what the problem was. If people are interested in a solution I may have a lead on one, as I suspect that the internal construction is the same. Mercedes just used a different electrical connection. > I dont have a 68-9, so it doesnt really matter to me. Just curious as to the > process. It's not a matter of year; this applies to most cars with OE carbs. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
