Some more information/observations...... "won't turn over again" is ... The starter will not turn over the engine when I turn the key to start. I have recently removed the ground strap and cleaned it during the starter rebuild. I wired in the Ford solenoid this evening as per Muir. It did not seem to make much of a difference. She turned over a few times and then would not turn over with the iginition switch. I eventually got her started by crawling underneath and jumping the starter solenoid with a screwdriver. Again had to use ether to get her to fire. Once she was running and warmed up a bit, she seemed to run fine. Responded to throttle good. Idled fine. The hesitation I had observed before was gone. The last thing I had done the night before was bump up the idle just slightly. Am I right to suspect the switch if it will turn over fine by jumping the start solenoid directly with a screwdriver? Anything else? Also, the coil is the one that was in the car when I bought. Could the hard start be attributed to a weak spark from the coil. I think I have two problems that are working together. The first being an electrical problem (ignition switch???) that keeps the starter from turning the engine over. The second being a spark or fuel problem that keeps it from firing easily during the starting process. I already suspect the switch for problem one, but what about problem two? What would keep it from starting easily, but not affect the running of the car once it is started? Ideas and wisdom appreciated.
