having a local guy do a 1776 engine. i'm using stock carburation and a very mild "cheater" cam made by cb performance (less duration/lift than the engle 110 or whatever the most mild engle is). i'm also using the 041 heads that have slightly larger valves in case i ever want to put on bigger carbs and exhaust. questions: the heads come with heavy duty valve springs. should i keep them in, or replace them with stock springs. local guy says another engine he built with same heads was very noisy with the heavy duty springs and that when he switched to stock springs it got real quiet and still ran well. i don't plan on racing the car and will rarely go over 4,500 rpm. do i need the heavy duty springs to fight harmonics as explained by gene berg in his tech articles. i can live with a little noisier engine if it will make it run better and/or give me longer engine life. also, i'm going to run 7.5:1 compression ratio. berg says that would be a little high, even with the altitude i live at. i might move to san diego next year, so i don't want to go much higher than that. any opinions on compression ratio? thanks, Dan Hoopes '67 Square, "Stanley" Provo, UT _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
