Everett, You have explained the VW "Types" situation extremely well and I agree with your summary of the four Types. Now, to split hairs and cause confusion, the Golf I (Rabbit, Caribe) and Golf II are both a Type1 (Type 17), the Golf I Cabriolet is a Type1 (Type15), the Jetta I and II are both a Type1 (Type16), a Golf Caddy (Rabbit pick-up) is a Type1 (Type147), a VW LT light truck/van is also a Type2 (Type28 and 29), a Brazilian VW Variant II is also a Type3 (Type30), a VW Passat I and II (Dasher and Quantum to Americans) are both a Type3 (Type32 and 33), an Audi 100 is also a Type4 (Type45), a VW-Porsche 914 is also a Type4 (Type47) and a VW K70 is also a Type4 (Type48). And, a "T4" or fourth generation Transporter or Eurovan is a Type70.
