Re: [T3] Close Encounters of the Best Kind!

Great story, Jim. But such experiences are more common on the West Coast I suppose.

A few months ago I passed through neighborhood close to my home where I saw a 71 Fastback up on jack stands in somebody's front yard. I made a U-turn and stopped to say hello (I was driving my own Fastback at the time). The guy was working to get the FI reconditioned as it had been sitting under the trees in his yard for about a decade. He was having a little trouble figuring out how to hook up the fuel pump. I had my Bentley in the back, so we opened it right up to the diagram. Within about an hour we also had the FI wiring checked (and corrected), the pressure sensor drained of oil inside it, and the brakes bled. We added some fuel, and the car actually started right up! (He had already changed the oil, adjusted the valves, etc....). I was also able to point out a few other things that needed attention (like cracked gas overfill hose).

Having read this list for a few years now, I was able to help the guy out. It was fun for me to help, and he was grateful to get the car running for his daughter. I told him about the List, but I haven't seen him here yet..
