Re: [T3] oil cooler and sagging torsion bars? STORY

I personally think the sump that adds my extra two quarts
is very good for me. I drive like a madman and it has been
almost two years since I have had this car, my first VW ever.
I was always a Detroit monster fanatic and I have broken
new motormounts and forged cranks off Big blocks. I fix
everything on any of my cars including my VW.

I am a very bad menace with cars. Today I have driven
my square to 100 miles an hour (FOR TEN MINUTES) around 4:00
clock in the morning when some car decided to tail gate me at
all lanes. I left him way back since he was afraid of speed.
I shift all of my automatics as if it was a stickshift. I
keep first gear in this car in up to 35 to 40 miles an hour
when I want to pass someone at the light or sign daily. I have
put 55,000 miles in this engine after it was rebuilt a year and
half ago. I have not touched the engine at all for almost
this amount of time. I Change my oil every 10,000 miles
or more, sometimes. I have not adjusted my swivel adjusters
since my rebuild. I am not exagerating. My brothers
laugh at me everytime I destroy another engine from
any of my cars , I must have had 20 cars by now including two
Volvos. Never had an accident before. I drive like this on dirt
trails too. I buy only used cars
because it is cheaper to break those. You guys probably
hate me for the TYPE 3 sinning , just think of this as
a durability test, I will let you know when I throw a rod
or blow the engine up in a firey death. Next thing I am
planning to do is add a liquid propane carburator to
the inlet of my EFI trottle body manifold so my car will
run on gasoline and/or EFI when I want to. This will cost
me 300 bucks in Mexico. If my engine goes beyond 100k and
still works strong I will itemize in painful details
all I have done to my EFI engine case etc ... to see
if duplication of this will be called upon from you guys.

When I first got the car , Smoke used to come out of the
oil filler tube when I checked my oil temp by touching the
dipstick. This oil always developed black chunks. The oil
always turned black after five days of driving .After this
I installed the sump and continued driving wildly. Now , no
more smoke came out of my dipstick tube and my oil was cooler
to the touch. But my engine was damaged anyway after the
drivings , melted heads and no oil pressure, so after running on
3 cylinders for two months, I rebuilt the engine. I did some
fine "tuning" to different aspects of my engine.
After the rebuild I still installed the sump. Still no smoke out
my oil. This is a stock 1600 beleive it or not.

Why I am telling you my story ? Well I think the more oil in the
engine the better. The oil lasts longer so the engine last longer.
It takes longer for the oil to heat up and overheat. It may also
take longer for the oil to cool off if it overheated.
Old fashion non coolered Autotrnnny's such as mine had
larger oil capacities to compensate for the overheating.
My dodge truck autotranny has a very flat insipid oil pan
compared to my VW's deep 'large' capacity pan .
Better cooling protection from bigger pan was placed instead
of the more modern radiator cooled tranny oil system.
My rambler aslo has a tranny with no cooling provisions but
has a bigger oil pan. Conclusion ??? Bigger sump is somehow better.
After four months of this I added an oil cooler and electric fan
and an oil filter. Placed a speaker magnet in the sump too.
Lot of oil I say! to prevent major engine maladys. So far my
engine for some reason feels stronger than before and I think
the break in has passed long ago. It could be that carbon in the
heads have raised the compression as well as the gaps on my
forgotten plugs has incresed ,causing bigger spark from my
big coil, thus better burn. Temp gauge never goes to the middle
no matter what ! Engine Angels ?????

I boast about my car so much because it runs better than
my Eddie Baur Bronco II and my old Ford Escort ever did.
Those two cars recently are in car hell now ,
both engines blew bad.

Remember the more oil the better, take it
from an experienced engine destroyer.

By the way, this weekend, I will adjust my swivel
rocker adjusters for the first time and change my
engine oil and autotranny fluid, I need to analyze
these and also cut the filter open for autotopsy.
Past findings show that I could not find any
material in the filter except silicon rubber
pieces and nothing to clean off the magnet.
This is after the few oil changes I have ever
done. I do not wish to mention what I did
to possibly cause the oil to be clean, some of you
will want to ring my neck.

The sump did kill my clearance somewhat on my
standard height. I tore my little sump cover
on a Baja run to a village in mexico, this is
a long strange story in itself, maybe for later
if someone asks. Anyhow , I raised my rear
with the aid of airshocks from JC Whitney
and wella ! No more under engine desruction
by boulders ! Worth it if you raise, very bad
if you lower it.

On torsion bars, I only raised my car with
torsion bars notches on the front. On the
rear I raised it with airshocks , pumped
to 170 pounds air pressure. I will raise
my rear with the splines in the comming
months. I have seen raised TYPE 3 cars in Mexico,
They call them baja'd Squarebacks , I even saw
one that was a front runner for the Baja
1000 so they say , it looked very serious
with some very wild things done to the engine.
One of the members of the TYPE 3 club of San
Diego has a Baja'd Square.

I wish to keep my car to original height like
the old adverts show. It is somewhat stock
height but some people would think it is raised
because they lower theirs. Thats the way it was
in the old days. No sagging look.

Yeah you can raise your rear but ask the
guys who have done it, for tips on what to do.

I KNOW , WAY TOO MUCH WRITING, I WAS JUST BORED.

So stand by and find out when my engine is
destroyed. Maybe my engine angels will keep it
going beautifully. Any betting going on out there ??

Hey Russ, maybe I will finish those cad
pictures next week , I have been horribly
busy. Oh yeah ! This government guy is
working for his money now days !
