I put a accelerator pump in I found in a box of spare carb gaskets that I had, sync the carbs, got it running good. Then I looked under the engine and saw a drop of oil under the main seal. I wiped the oil up to make sure that it was not just leftover from before and dried off the case good, let the car idle a few more minutes and I be dang it there is not more oil under the engine the next time I look down there. end play was set at 5 thousandths, why is this thing destroying main seals as soon as the engine warms up? And locking up on the main every time I get about 35 miles on it after a rebuild? I have had bugs that ran basically forever, but this dang type III is a piece of crap. After 2 different types of counterweighted cranks, 3 align boring jobs, 3 mechanics, 2 cases, 2 years, 5 tear downs, 2 sets of dual carbs, 2 sets of rods, 100's of my own hours, and I am very ashamed to even start to mention how much $$$ I have spent on this. I now have a 1776cc piece of crap squareback that I can not drive. Not to mention that my fenders and hood are at the body shop getting the trim holes welded up so that I can get this thing painted that I can NOT drive. What a wast of my past 3 years, and money. Someone try to convince me to not throw in the towell. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/
