It depends. It is getting to be a shame tho. When I was working on VW's back in the '60's and '70's, a complete "Factory" rebuilt engine was only about $350.00. Buy the '80's they were up to $650.00 for a long block. And I was rebuilding engines at home for people for $400. Now they are up to $2150, what a T-3 sold for when new. Be sure you get an engine that is right for a T-2. In 1968, they went to a rear cross member similar to the T-3. Be sure you get the castings and the tapped holes in the case for this cross member, if the Westfalia is a 68-'71. In '72, they went to the T-4/914 style engine.
