Each bearing took a whole (small) grease gun-full before I managed to flush out all the dirty brown/ black slime that passed for grease before. I suppose new bearings would have helped even more, but they weren't as worn as Leon's. Luckily! Bentley quote inside diameters for the bearings as either 44mm or 44.2mm for the upper, and 50mm or 50.2mm for the lower. Does anyone (Leon?) have either the other dimensions (length and O/D) or the original makers numbers off the bearings. This would be a number by SKF or someone, not the VW number. It'd be nice to find out if the bearings are available new, particularly because type 3s in breakers yards here in the UK are about as common as flying pigs. (And I don't mean Police in helicopters). As an afterthought, it may be possible to find an undersize bearing, allowing the surface of the torsion arm to be machined smooth. Just a thought. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
