[T3] Strange OEM Type 3 Muffler

In the continuing saga of the beat up 71 squareback I am bringing
back to life for my friend Joe, I am down to the last thing it needs,
which is a muffler. The first muffler I grabbed was a very slightly
used one that I bought from someone on the Internet. It's virtually
new, but when I grabbed a damper pipe to stick in it I found that
this muffler was DIFFERENT!

Now in every other way this muffler is just like any other 66-71 type
3 OEM muffler. It is sized right for the damper pipe with separate
tailpipe. It is marked "Walker" and looks just like it should. The
only difference is that the outlet where the damper pipe fits is about
1" too far to the right!!??

I have some other Walker mufflers here and they are not like this;
they also have different #s stamped on them. This one seems like
it would need a damper pipe about 1" longer than normal. I'll use a
different muffler today and make an adapter for this one later, but
I'm really surprised.

Has anyone seen a muffler like this before?

The rest of this repair has gone pretty reasonably, for a car that
has not run in ~8 years. I've rebuilt all the brake hardware, replaced
2 steel lines and 2 rubber hoses, taken the FI pump apart and
gotten it working, mostly. We had to replace hoses and re-do the
plumbing around the fuel pump which was all wrong. Tomorrow I
have to weld a repair stub to the end of the heat exchanger to
replace the piece that rusted away.

The muffler I'll put on here is one I got cheap that was made in
Canada. I've never seen another one and I have no experience with
these, but this seemed like a good time to try it. I'll let you know
how it turns out. The neighbors can verify that the engine runs now
and is PLENTY loud with no muffler at all; I've only run it that way
for a few seconds at a time, just to verify that it's working.

This is the car that had been from the US to the UK and back and
had the RHD "city lights." Joe reminded me that it was actually in
Scotland. Is anyone interested in those strange RHD "city lights"
sealed beams?
