But they are the same number. Early cars have it posted in 2 
places, the latest ones have it in 4, but they are all the same. The 
engine number, however, is different.

I think you'd be surprised. My guess is close to 100%.

Your comments, and the others from Perl, about getting in trouble 
with the motor vehicle people were good. I hadn't thought of that big 
potential problem.
