My 1966 six volt A/C does not interfere with access to the steering column, fuse box, or turn signal flasher or relay. I don't have a FI fuel pump relay. Access to the radio, airbox controls, windshield wipers, and water drain tubes is certainly decreased. I would not "cut up" an original car today to add A/C. Yet since my car was delivered new with the unit, I believe it is best to maintain it and enjoy it. I use it very sparingly -- only when cruising at expressway and higher speeds. I use it for a few minutes to cool the cabin, then shut it off. I do agree that it may generate additional heat and strain on the engine. This may apply somewhat less to me personally -- I am teased a lot by other VW owners since I "baby" my car so much. I certainly don't think air-cooled VWs are optimized for the added A/C units, but I like to think that mine adds some character to the car (as it is an uncommon accessory and generates a lot of comments) and adds some comfort to driving. - Todd PS -- Haven't said this for awhile: Thanks to everyone on the list for your help over the years. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
