This is pretty funny. I just replaced the boots on my swing axle '63 Beetle. I had the engine out and the car up on jackstands when I, too, read that the boots needed to be installed with the suspension in the loaded position. "Oh, o.k.," I thought, so I put the rear wheels on, put the car back on the ground, rolled it out of the garage into the sunshine and installed the boots. I guess I read the "loaded position" as "don't have the car jacked up" rather than "don't have the car jacked up, and match the stock unladen weight." I wonder if the variation is significant when installing the boots? They seemed to go on o.k., and don't appear to be leaking after about 10 miles of driving. Why not just have a friend or two sit in the back of the car? The engine's only a couple of hundred pounds... -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/
