Congratulations! We're all really pleased that you stuck with it. I suspect that some dirt fell into the trigger points, keeping them from making contact. This would explain the throttle clicks going away. One of the important things I do when I rebuild a dist is clean everything pretty well, as dirt from the breaker plate above can fall down like this and disable the car, so it's important to not only remove the offending dirt, but also that which is threatening.
