Re: [T3] side markers, butchered wiring

Jerrod=> should i plug the holes in the carbs where the
=> vaccuum hose is supposed to go?

Definitely. And unless you're having fun with it, I'd say
don't even waste your time with those mismatched,
whacked-out carbs. Just wait for the right parts and
start fresh.

=> What years and models did the side markers come on?
=> were they lights? (running lights? turn signal lights?)
=> or were they just reflectors,

Side markers are Euro-spec safety equipment. They're designed to help
prevent other drivers from running into your car when it's parked
(especially double-parked) on a narrow street. They come on when
the key is *off* and the turn signal switch is *on*. It's not uncommon
to have these wired as auxiliary turn signals -- I've done this my car --
and it's simple to do on a Type 3.

=> I think pulling a complete wiring harness out of a
=> car at the junkyard is a pretty daunting task...

It would also be kind of pointless, in my opinion. These wiring harnesses
are all very old and generally too brittle to be reliable once you start
messing with them. There are always connectors to fix, bits of broken
plastic, hidden wire breaks, and yadda yadda. A new harness is the
cheapest and easiest big fix you can do on your car. Working with new
wiring is a huge pleasure you can't really appreciate until you've done it,
and installing a new harness in isn't anything like as difficult as it
seems.
Much easier than trying to put in an *old* harness, without doubt.
