hey everyone, First of all i forgot to introduce myself the last couple of times that i posted questions, so here goes. my name is jesse, i am from southern pennsylvania, have driven volkwagons all of my life, have a wife who loves old vw's as much as i do!, and i spend way to much time fixing cars! so with that said a big hello! my question is this....my 71 squareback was running well and then if ran out of gas. to my surprise it was leaking gas where the return fuel line connects to the metal fuel line under the rear of the car. so i put about a gallon of gas in the car and tried to start it up. no luck...not even a sputter. i did notice that every time the fuel system build up pressure the return line would start to leak. all fuel lines are fairly tight so that's not the problem. i think that the fuel return line is somehow clogged. would this cause the car not to run? i would think that the fuel pressure would build up above 28 psi and flood the engine. does this sound logical? if so where would you first look to see where the clog might be. Fuel pump? Tank? i am sure that this is a fuel problem because i squired just a little starter fluid into the intake and it fired right up for a second so i think the ignition is cool. Let me know your thoughts anyone. Also does anyone on the site live close to southern pennsylvania? i would love to have someone to talk cars with and swap knowledge. much thanks, the newbie to the type3 site jesse ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
