You want the jackstands under the heavy plates that form the ends of the torsion bar tubes, just in front of the rear tires. To get them there, you will want to lift the car from closer to the center. You can safely jack under any part of the rear subframe, which consists of the torsion bar tube and the wishbone frame that straddles the tranny. If you can reach it with your jack, the best thing to shoot for is the narrow part of the wishbone just in front of the tranny. This way you can lift the whole rear end and place both jackstands at the same time. Otherwise you can jack on the torsion bar tube and lift one side at a time and place the jackstands. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
