It has a 1500cc single port type 1 engine running on propane. That is about as lead free as you can get. He had to grind the valves about twice a year until VW came out with the harder valve seats for the unleaded gas. Then the problem went away. He said that it would wear the seats, and after grinding the valves the second time, he would have to replace the heads.
