I don't find anything wrong with a stock 1600 twin carb running Premium unleaded (called 95 octane) in the UK. It certainly doesn't need the higher octane from the point of view of anti-knock properties, and there's no added lead in the super either. There still seems to be a lot of VW owners here that are using Lead-Replacement Petrol (gas), or wondering about converting to 'unleaded heads', but maybe they know the heads they now have are 'cheap' after market ones. Lucky you can get the fuel tax-free in Germany, but I think I'll stick to being here, and just pay up! I guess I must be a masochist. Dave.
