Lex, take a look at the club website - there's a page explaining what the VIN plate means. It tells you about the petrol heater certification (Heiz....) and the max axle loadings total, front and rear (Kg) etc. at http://www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/dating.htm Wipers changing with engine speed is probably just a tired 6V wiring system. Chassis number shows April/May 1964. Engine is within a month or so of then. Check out the chassis and engine number pages on the club site (/t3engnos.htm). PS I've just read Simon's reply - nothing to quarrel with there! Could have been a CKD (completely knocked down kit). I hear they often ended up with different characteristics - mix and match assembly! Dave.
