this may or may not work, but when i needed to clean my vcr and didnt have a cleaning tape , i took a unwanted vcr tape poured alcohol in the tape , shook it out and played it in the vcr , sounds scarry but i have done this many times without a tape cleaner at hand and it has worked great .. 500$ Dont EVER try this!! any alcohol in the air gap of the tape and head and the tape will wrap around the head and rip everything apart... and may ruin the heads!!
