Actually, that's a great idea. If we could get a list of people who *think* they could swing it, get a population count and create routes, then figure out which routes to merge to get the most VW's together, then plan resting points, and days/hours to reach said points. See http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/gbmc/index.html and my mileage chart. It logs my gas consumption and mileage for the GB Cruise 2000 I participated in (final destination was Colorado). Oh, and a good portion of the cruise was with me AND Brian, along with our luggage (two guys so you know it was pretty sparse ;), tools, jack stands, 2.5-ton floor jack, spare parts and a wooden cradle in case I had to drop my engine :) Yes, on a long journey you should plan for trouble. Luckily, you'll be in good company since a T3 can carry more than a T1 (yeah, yeah, a T2 will put the smack-down on all of us :) With the small experience I've had with other cruises, all cars should be able to maintain the posted speed limits +5mph (just in case). Thus, in a 65mph zone the car should be able to maintain 70mph. However, the line up usually only travels as fast as its slowest car. This means that I wouldn't be traveling at my usual warp-factor :) Though it would be neat to have all the Cali cars drive up through Portland, I don't think/know it would shorten their distance. The more cars together the bigger the impact! I do like the idea of 'collecting' other VW's along the way :) Hey Bri, wanna hash out the plans when you come here for PIR? Let's make this more organized than the GBC was, 'kay ;) Toby Erkson air_cooled_nut@pobox.com '72 VW Squareback 1.6L bored and stroked to 2.0L, Berg five-speed '95 VW Jetta III GL 2.0L, P-Chipped, Jamex sport suspension Portland, Oregon, http://www.icbm.org/ >-----Original Message----- >Now might be prime time to start planning "routes"...
