All the late (68-73) cars have a MC brake light switch wiring 
harness that has a 3 section in-line connector above the left rear 
corner of the gas tank.

If the 66 has something similar to that, you could just replace the 
harness that leads to the tank with a later harness meant for 2 2-
pole brake light switches (67), 2 2-pole brake light switches plus a 
2-pole warning light switch (68-9), or 2 3-pole combination 
switches. These are commonly available from scrapped cars since 
no one knows they are there and there is no demand for them.

compare your 66 to your 71 and let me know what you would like.
