[T3] ignition wont turn!! cant unlock steering wheel

i attemped to tow my 67 sqbk today but i couldnt get the ignition turned to 
unlock the steering.  the car has been sitting only a year and i never had 
such i problem.  i tryed for about 2 hours to turn the key.  I tryed it 
gently and still no turn.  i figured that if i tryed enough it would turn. 
any suggestions?
