Eric, I just went through this nightmare a couple of days ago on my 67. I left it alone for a long time and drove with a curtain rod in my trunk to prop it up at gas stations because it's not fun to fix. First off, put down the Bentley, cause it doesn't say a damn thing about the front hood spring, unless you own a shark-nose type 3. (where's the EARLY type 3 Bentley reprint??) Mine was disconnected only on the left side, so I had a bit of an advantage over your situation. What you need to do is place the center, bowed part of the spring into the center hooks on the body. (facing down) Wrestle the passenger side of the spring into its carrier with the lower hinge grabbing the inside hook. (inside meaning toward the middle) I wore heavy leather gloves to do this too - it helped a lot. The hinge needs to be pulled out toward the nose of the car and braced there by placing something sturdy behind it, while keeping it in the hooks. (this is where it tries to jump out and bite you, so be careful) This is also where you need 4 arms and Incredible Hulk strength. Grunting and cursing help tremendously. I actually used a ratcheting tie strap to hold the hinge out. The hinge needs to be bowed toward the front of the car and then bolted to the front hood. This will keep tension on it and keep the hood from busting you one. (thanks Muir) Do the same on the left (driver) side. Have a beer - you'll need it!
