Well, it depends on how and where you like to drive. :) It lets you "kick down" to a lower gear when you fully depress the gas pedal. You could shift by hand if you wanted to, instead, for similar effect. I think that the kickdown switch is cool, and wouldn't want to drive the auto without it. I find it particularly convenient in medium-speed highway situations when I want to speed up from about 50mph, or when I'm feeling "spirited" as I pull off from a stop -- you begin by flooring it past the kickdown engagement, then release pressure slightly for a fast, electrically-controlled shift when you're ready to go from 1 to 2, somewhere around 35mph or a bit faster. The throttle remains fully open the whole time, too, even when you let up a little bit to release the kickdown switch, thanks to the neat little spring/lever arrangement on the AT throttle body.
