FrankS=> What's the procedure for removing the => non-door glass from the car? In a nutshell: get inside and push it out. Start at an upper corner and work along the top. Once the top is out the whole thing will tilt right out. If the rubber is hardened, trim off the inside lip with a razor knife. Resist the compulsion to remove the chrome trim first, this will only screw up the trim. It'll all come out fine with the rubber, and you can later remove the rubber from the trim, leaving it bent exactly the way it should be bent. You mention that your windshield was cracked, so it's no surprise that it cracked further on removal. If the back glass is in good shape it should come out easy.
