decideing what is normal throttle shaft wear and what is gonna cause you to run lean over the internet is not easy. it is not an easy thing to measure either without a dial and some patience if you plan on keeping the car get them rebushed its gonna be realatively cheap to do. there is another thing i have done in the past sort of short term solution that can last a very long time!!! take the nut of the end pull of the linkage get a real good flat screwdriver and undoo on the butterfly screws pull it out of the throttle shaft . with a engineers file file of very small amount either sid of the throttle shaft where the linkage bolts on see whats gonna happen here ? when you do this it closes the gap either end on the throttle shaft so less air can get past if you take your time you can get this real close and it still be completely freeto move. dont worrie bout the butterfly not centering as the holes that mount it are large enough to allow it to go sideways a bit. take the oppetunity to clean around the inside of the throttle housing while its out this will stop air leaking past because dirt ridges can build up and these dont allow it to close when you let off th gas and makes it dificult to set your carbs up. when you put the butterfly back in turn it to the closed position to do up on the screws ensure it is centred properly with as little gap around it as possible this will ensure it doesnt run too lean. keep in mind just lean makes power ! but just slightly leaner will cook your motor. i have a butterfly to hold your air cleaner on send me your addy ill pop it in the post. did it come with electro magnetic cut of valves ? do they work these are very important and are the one thing that has caused me most problems with these pdsits over the years ... i dont carry much at all in the way of spares thes days but i allways have one of those in the glovebox :<) neil verdon 66 sqr on irs pan best among equals rise to the top. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
