As an example, my Bus has the original engine and tranny. If something broke, I wouldn't slap in another engine so I could drive it, the Bus would be down until I fixed the original engine or transmission. It sounds dumb to say "The car has 50K on it but 40k on the original engine because I put something else in for 10,000 miles." Not to say my Bus is necessarily worth these actions, I just like everything to stay as original as possible.
